FAQs

Everything students ask before booking

Prices, bills, tenancy lengths, guarantors and getting to campus — the short answers are here.

Are bills included?

Yes. All utility bills and the internet are included in the rent, and so is contents insurance for your belongings. There is nothing to set up when you arrive and nothing to split with your flatmates.

Can I stay for just one semester?

Yes. ABeleven lets semester rooms as well as full-year rooms, so you can come for a term, two terms, or a few months in between. It suits a study-abroad semester, a placement or a January start. Tell the team your dates and they will confirm what is available.

Can I move in in January?

Yes. A January start is one of the main things this building offers, and there are rooms let on shorter terms for exactly that. Send an enquiry with the dates you need and the team will come back to you.

How much is a room?

Prices are not published on this site. What a room costs depends on which type you take and how long you stay, and the live figure sits with the Homes for Students booking page. Ask the team and they will tell you what applies to your dates.

How do I get to Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen?

Robert Gordon is a 20-minute door-to-door bus journey, 12 minutes by bike or 10 by car. The University of Aberdeen is 29 minutes by bus, 13 by bike or 12 by car. Those are Homes for Students' own figures. Secure bike storage is on site, and parking is available for an extra charge.

What is nearby?

Union Street, the shopping centres and the main run of shops are about 12 minutes' walk, and Aberdeen railway station about 16, measured on Google Maps. North East Scotland College's Aberdeen City Campus is about 25 minutes on foot or seven by bike. The building sits at the edge of the city centre, so the city is the walk rather than the campus.

What is in the building?

A gym and a common room, both recently put in, with sofas, a long table, a television and a pool table. There is also a laundry room, secure bike storage, a garden and outdoor area, on-site maintenance and a reception. The gym and every communal space are included in your rent.

Is the building secure?

Yes. Entry is by access card, there is 24-hour CCTV, and there is a maintenance team on site. Bike storage is secure too.

Is there parking?

Yes, parking is available at an additional charge. Secure bike storage is included.

Do I need a UK guarantor?

Not necessarily. What applies depends on your course, your funding and how long you are staying, and there are options for international students without a UK guarantor. Ask the team and they will tell you what works for your booking.

Can I view before I book?

Yes, in person or by video call. Ask for one on the enquiry form, say which you would prefer, and the team will arrange it.

What happens if I do not get my place or my visa?

Homes for Students publishes two terms on its booking page. No Place, No Pay: "If your university cancels your course, or you don't get a place, you can cancel without penalty." No Visa, No Pay: "If you don't get your Visa, you can cancel without penalty." Full terms are confirmed at the point of booking.

Is the building accessible?

There is step-free access, and accessible en-suite rooms with a level-access shower and grab rails. Availability of those rooms changes through the year, so ask the team about your dates.
